Spy's Code Of Ethics

Today Carmen Sandiego escaped prison and trashed our classroom. Also she and her V.I.L.E. goons  stole a ancient artifact. The Spy Organization A.C.M.E. reached out to our class and we all are learning to be a spy agents and catch Carmen Sandiego and her V.I.L.E. henchmen. We all made our agent names and code names as well as printed our fingerprints on a form.

I enjoyed printing our fingerprints and writing our agent code names.
I found nothing challenging.
My digital learning object shows what our Spy Code Of Ethics are and what we have to follow.

The People of Parihaka

For RE this week, we were learning about Parihaka. Parihaka was a peaceful village full of kind and caring people. But the government wanted to take the land. They sent soldiers with guns and swords, but the people of Parihaka did not resist, instead they greeted the soldiers. The women baked bread while the children sung and danced. The soldiers still took their land and inprisioned the cheifs but the People of Parihaka did not retaliate or complain. When the cheifs got out of prison, they simply rebuilt Parihaka.

I enjoyed making the Google Drawing and learning all about Parihaka.
I found nothing challenging.

The Rosary

This month is the month of the Rosary.
We are learning all about the Rosary and part of that is making a Google drawing about how to pray the Rosary.
I enjoyed learning and making the Google drawing about how to pray it.
I found it challenging to find the infomation about each prayer that you say.

The Worst Soccer Game

WALT describe in our writing. We were trying to use some long and short sentences, use adjectives and adverbs, use juicy verbs to start a sentence, use a simile or metaphor, keep to one main idea in each paragraph and edit for spelling and punctuation.
I enjoyed writing about the terrible match we played in soccer.
I found it challenging to find adverbs and put them in my writing because the ones I was thinking of didn't fit in.

The icy grass crunched beneath us as we ran. The frosty wind thrashed against the ball and pushed it back as we tried to kick it. Frozen rain bucketed down. The clouds roared like a lion with all its might. The game still continued, even though the weather struck us with its might and our arms and chest felt stiff like frostbite. Eventually everything became a blur. Our bodies stung. The wind threw us to our knees. Cold rain soaked our clothes. Finally, after all that, I slowly got up from the ground and used all of my adrenalin to score the finishing goal. As a celebration, all I wanted to do was have a hot bath and a delicious hot chocolate.

Broken Wing Comic Strip

WALT make inferences in our reading.
I enjoyed making the comic stip about the story we are reading called Broken Wing.
I found nothing challenging.

RWC Escape Room

For Week 9 & 10 Reading tasks, we had to get out of a RWC based escape room!
We had 5 sheets of questions to answer. Once we finished them, we showed the teacher and got number six. Every day before school I would go around the classroom to find and memorise the questions for number 4. All I could think of when I got the forth sheet was "I'm in the endgame now". and I got even more nervous when I got the sixth, because someone could've easily finished it all and got number six... but no one did, and I was the first person to escape!

Speechs

This week we presented our speeches.
I felt very relaxed because I've done it so many times before.
We included our pepeha.
We had to use a clear voice, stand still, speak loudly, go at our own pace, look up at the crowd, use expression and be confident.
Our speeches also needed to include a rhetorical question and be persuasive.
My speech was on Climate Change.
Also you can check out my previous blog post and read what my speech was about.

Climate Change

We are learning to structure.
I enjoyed learning about Climate Change and what it does to our planet.
I found it challenging to put it in my own words.

What is Climate change and what its doing to our planet? The Amazon Rainforest AKA The Earth’s Lungs produces 20% of the Earth’s oxygen and is home to 10% of Earth’s animals and plants. But right now wildfires have gotten out of control and are so big they are visible from space.

Because the Earth is warming up, the sea temperature is warming up and glaciers are melting at an astonishing rate. Unfortunately, lowlands (places that are below sea level) are flooding, destroying homes and leaving people stranded.

Another key reason about climate change is fossil fuels (diesel, coal, petrol, etc). Fossil fuels when burned, are very harmful to the environment and the Earth’s atmosphere. They produce carbon dioxide and other harmful greenhouse gases that trap heat in our planet and atmosphere so it can’t leave.

I think we need to start using renewable energy like electric cars because it is more efficient. We need to stop using fossil fuels. We also need to plant a lot of trees. We need to stop climate change from happening.

We are learning to make maths quizzes with Google Slides.
I enjoyed making all the slides.
I found it challenging to link the slides at the start.

Why Caged Chickens Should Be Banned

We are learning about why Caged Chickens should be banned.
I enjoyed learning about how cruel it is that they are caged.
I found it challenging to write it in my own words.

Why Caged Hens should not be in Cages
Would you want to be a caged hen with no room to move? Eighty-five percent of all chickens that lay eggs are kept in a shed that contain over forty five thousand captive hens. The hens space in their cage is the size of an A4 piece of paper, they are cramped up and can’t dust bathe or exercise. Caged hens get diseases, like osteoporosis due to the lack of exercise and fatty liver disease. My conclusion is: eighty-five percent of all chickens that lay eggs are kept in sheds that contain over forty five thousand hens. Their cage is the size of an A4 piece of paper and can’t act natural. They get diseases like osteoporosis and fatty liver disease. I firmly believe that hens should not be kept in cages as its inhumane and cruel.

Winter

We are learning to describe using specific nouns, adjectives, juicy verbs and similes.
I enjoyed describing what happened outside.
I found it challenging to describe the snow on the trees because I've never seen snow in person.

In the forest, snow smeared across the trees. The grass was frozen stiff like icicles. A cold white mist covered the air. Snowflakes trickled from the warm grey sky. The wind whistled violently as it blew snow off the frozen trees. Goosebumps crawled down my body like a spider of my back.

My Math Problems

Everyday since the start of the holidays, my Poppa has been giving me mathematical equations to help with my maths. Here are the ones we’ve kept:

12% of 100 = 12

12 divided by 4 = 3

Squids team has 9 players, the opponent has 11 players. Each person in the opposing team scored 3 goals and Squids team only scores 5 goals. How many goals did the opposing team score, compared to Squids team?
33 divided by 5 = 28

Bath bombs

We are learning to make bath bombs.
I enjoyed it when we put the water in and it exploded.
I found it challenging to put the bath bomb mixture into the cup.

Have you ever wondered how to make bath bombs?
First, get a clear bowl and add 1 cup of baking soda, half a cup of citric acid, half a cup of epsom salts, 3 quarters of a cup of corn starch, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract add 30 drops of essential oils with a pipette.Stir it up then let it dry overnight. After its dried, you can put it in water and watch it explode. The reaction from the baking soda, citric acid and the water caused a chemical reaction and made it fizz up with carbon dioxide.

Yeast bubbles

We are learning to make Yeast Bubbles. I liked how the bubbles overflowed. I found it challenging to wait for the yeast bubbles to expand.
Yeast Bubbles
Have you ever wondered how to make yeast bubbles?
First, get a cup and put half a teaspoon of yeast in it then some warm water (37 degrees) and lastly 2 teaspoons of sugar in it.
Wait about 10 minutes and there will be yeast bubbles.
The bubbles happened because yeast likes sugar and it basically ATE the sugar which made it expand with carbon dioxide.

Filtering raro in sand and iron filings

We are learning about chemical reactions in class. I liked how the iron filings stuck to the magnet. It was satisfying. I found it tricky to use technical language. Here is my explanation.

Have you ever wondered how to filter things? All you really need is filter paper or a Magnet.

A mixture is two substances that don’t chemically combine, which means they can be separated.

If you put iron filings in sand, raro and water you can remove the iron filings with a Magnet. To remove the sand and raro, get filter paper and put in a cup. Next, put sand and raro mix in the filter paper and then put sand in separate cup and let it dry then put it in the Sand Pit. then with the raro put it in the sun and let the water evaporate.
